A half-hidden hero video that earns a scroll
Most hero sections ask for a decision before anyone actually knows what the product does. Sign up, get started, book a demo, with maybe one sentence of context sitting above the button.
For Svoop, the company I work at, I tried something else. A video sits in the hero section, but only half revealed, peeking off the edge of the screen rather than filling it. Enough movement to catch the eye, not enough to show everything at once.
That partial reveal is doing the actual work. A fully visible video gets watched or skipped in the first two seconds. A half-hidden one makes someone want to see the rest of it, and scrolling is the only way to get there
So the motion becomes the explainer instead of a paragraph sitting under a screenshot. Scroll, and the concept keeps unfolding instead of asking someone to read an intro first and watch second.
It is a small trick, hide just enough of it, and it does more to earn attention than a full autoplay video ever did in the same spot.
Curiosity gets someone to scroll further than an instruction ever will.
